I need your help!
Dear Friends,
On August 27th 2012 I will be taking up the challenge of vying for the member of parliament seat for the newly formed Laikipia North Constituency in Kenya. The constitution has decentralized political, economical and administrative powers from Nairobi to the regional local governments in the counties.
Although famously known all over the world for their cultural identity and lifestyle, the Laikipiak Maasai have suffered due to systematic injustices and inequalities. Laikipia Maasai earns Kenya massive tourist attraction, an industry that sells itself, earning Kenya solid foreign currency every year. Still, we do not even get royalty-a recognition for our contribution to the national economy. The semi-arid Laikipia North which is predominantly occupied by Laikipia Maasai lacks almost all basic institutions and infrastructure to even support the decentralized constitution.
The Ngais For Laikipia North will raise vital funds for Saidimu Ole Ngais member of parliament seat’s campaigns in 2012. Saidimu Ole Ngais will be providing continuous updates on our development on this campaign’s site; http://ngaisforlaikipianorth.com. Your contribution will enable Ngais for Laikipia North team to conduct a village to village campaigns the earlier the better.
We have a large fundraising goal for Ngais For Laikipia North Campaigns for the 2012 Laikipia North parliamentary seat. The expected cost of the Ngais For Laikipia North 2012 Campaign is $ 50.000. I have set myself a personal fundraising target of $ 10.000. I would greatly appreciate your help in reaching this target because (The main reason for lack of development in Laikipia North is because of lack of political representation. Those who have so far represented us lacked good will to claim the portion of the national cake that is entitled to the Laikipiak Maasai. We have seen infrastructure development at the nearest town about 62 km away supported by governmental community development funds (CDF). But we have also been disappointed to see such funds not made available for Laikipia North. Electricity cables, water pipes, road tarmacking, mobile and telephone lines were installed all the way to the bridge that separate the town and the rural area occupied by the Laikipiak Maasai. Kenya continues to give us an empty Chaque.
We ask our government, when shall we enjoy the fruits of our independence?
The Laikipiak Maasai must have their own political representation as one way of attaining a long lasting political solution to such prolonged injustices and inequalities.
Our plight can not any more be ignored.
Despite the new constitution, wealthy individuals can still manipulate the leveled playing ground in the quest to hijack our opportunity. There is a very high risk that individuals with hidden agenda can use their wealth to buy votes. This is possible because of very high levels of poverty in Laikipia North.
We therefore need to conduct a lot of civic education and sensitize people to know the value of their voting card. The card that, if used appropriately, would change our lives for the better.
A lot of injustices are happening and will continue happening even though Kenya has a new constitution. Nevertheless the new constitution has made it possible for minorities like Laikipiak Maasai to field their own legislature who can champion their problems, wealthy individuals could still hijack it from us. . That is why I am standing up. As an Agent for positive change and development, I want to participate in shaping our destiny, restoring human dignity in Laikipia North and the greater Kenya.
Facilitating campaigns are costly that is why I am calling you to support this cause. Kindly contribute whatever you can.
I have started my fundraising off with a personal donation of $ 3.000. Your donation will bring me closer to my goal and help Laikipia North Maasai to get their own political representation and an opportunity to restore human dignity in Laikipia.
As part of our fundraising, we are also holding a Ngais For Laikipia North Support Party on July 25th 2011. We will be inviting people from the local business community/families from the local area. If you could donate (an item for our auction, provide the food/drinks/decorations or print the tickets and posters for the event), I will (include an acknowledgement of your support on the program, etc).
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. As one of my sponsors, I will personally let you know how we do. If you would like any more information on Ngais For Laikipia North Campaigns, please visit (http://ngaisforlaikipianorth.com).
Sincerely,
